Long bike rides (motor or pedal power), nice tushies, good cheap wine, an afternoon in a really good museum, waking up stepping out of the tent and watching the sun rise

It's a Wonderful Life, Diggstown, Love Song For Bobby Long (Is it weird to think that's Travolta's best work?)

Anything by Gibran, Maslow, or Drucker; Presently reading 'The Vertigo Years" by Philipp Blom. Pretty much anything on philosophy, business or interesting people.
Don't read fiction. If art imitates life, why waste time on the imitation?
Next up 'A Short Treatise On the Great Virtues' by Andre Comte-Sponville for the 4th or 5th time. Maybe this time some of it will sink in..........

Well, as 2009 closes I enter my 3rd year in Portugal. What a ride its been. Red tape and new problems at every turn delayed contract, agreed upon salary and work almost 15 months. 2 trips to the US annually bringing more back each trip. FINALLY the bike is on the way and should be tween my legs before end of January. To the US around March for what should be the last time. Shipping what few things I really want to keep on a ship and after I leave the neighbors will sell what's left in the house. Gonna sell Kansas and rent Missouri for a few years. Just want to feel I've got one foot still planted in the US for a while.
So far, after getting through the early hassle, this place is living up to my expectations. Kind of a magical, enchanted land for me. Castles everywhere, museums abound with art from the 16th-17th century. Buildings hundreds of years old are everywhere. Guess its true that the difference between the US and Europe is in Europe 100 miles is a long way and in the US 100 years is a long time.
On the downside been trying to run a marathon since 1980. Something always seems to get in the way of dedication and training needed and that goal gets put on the back burner. Now approaching 60 and worried about effect of 100s of training miles on the ole knees, along with the reality I don't swim well, I've decided to try biathlons in 2010. Looks like July 4th will be my first attempt to run and bicycle my way into the next adventure. Jeez, why can't I live life slower instead of always chasing dreams. Oh well, just a cross I'll have to bear..........
Believe as Johnny Gimble once said, "There were only two songs ever written. The 'Star's Spangled Banner' and the Blues."
I say I don't smoke but I will sneak a few Cuban cigars every month or 2. Yeah, OK, I lied. So sue me.
