VETERANS HELPING OTHERS

VOL 2 NO 2 February 2008 ISSUE NO 7

Organization – Our organization is now just four months away from our first anniversary. Here is a short update. We finished 2007 with twenty-three Members. That’s a few more than I really expected in our first year. Financially we ended up in the black by a few dollars as I notice in the January Newsletter. Our members in Oklahoma end up with the most members, a total of six, or 25% of the total membership.
Most of the year was spent trying to get more visibility and interest. From that standpoint I don’t believe we didn’t do as well as I had hope we would. I would guess one reason for that is because the number of other Veteran’s riding organizations there are.

BUDGET (2008 Estimated) was attached to last month’s Newsletter but if anyone need another copy just let me know.

THE NEW YEAR- Happy New Year to everyone and their families Sorry the newsletter is late this month but I have had a number of problems that I had to resolve with my new computer, like replacing the hard drive. Back on track now.
I think we had a good start in 07 with our organization, and I will continue to work hard at helping us grown and getting the little organizational things done. We are getting closer to having our flags made once I can get the digital logo for the darn thing in the right format. We have two important Charity Rides scheduled for 08. One in PA in August for the Lt Cleary Foundation and the second is the Tour de Dan Diego in September 21st. There will be more on both of these later.

MEMBERS – Please check on the on-line database and let John or I know if there are any corrections to be made regarding your entry.

WEB SITE – Reminder I asked John to delete the Chat Room and Blog area since there didn’t seem to be any interest in them. I was also hoping that some of you would send in some pictures for the site and/or the Newsletter

PROJECTED ACTIVITIES: 2008 Actual Planned

Dayton/Key West - FIRM – 1-9 March 2008 by the time most of get this newsletter we will be on our way. We plan to leave on Saturday March 1st for Dayton and are riding instead of taking the train. It’s only about 870 miles so we should be there in the morning of the 2nd and then head south for Key West on the afternoon of the 3rd stopping along the way to see the sights. We’ll head home on the 8th. That puts us back in Lorton on the morning of the 9th.

August 16, 2008 Ashley, PA – (Firm) Lt. Cleary Freedom Ride sponsored by Steve Biernacki and Wayne Gritz is scheduled on August 16th 2008. I plan on riding up to PA to ride this year and will have our Pre-Tour De San Diego Event on the following Saturday. I hope some others in the area will join us.

Lawride – Titusville, Florida April 4-8 – Steve Biernacki, his wife Katie and I plan on riding down to participate in this ride. All of the proceeds go to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. If anyone is interested let me know.

Lawride Washington DC- May 11th.

Rolling Thunder - May 2008 – Hopefully, we can ride as a group. If you plan on attending this we will need to make hotel reservations so let us know early. If you have been to this before you know hotel rooms are booked way in advance.

Special Forces Reunion in Harrisburg, PA Although I don’t expect any other members to ride I decided to ride and do a little advertising. I’ll be gone June 9-13.

Quebec o/a June 17 departure for a week.

Fort Riley Troop Support Ride – We still have no definitive ride information from Fort Riley. June 2008 Plan is to ride to Fort Riley to welcome home troops from Iraq, 2/16 Change of Command etc. This will take coordination with Fort Riley for lodging, visit with troops, etc, .which I will do once I get the final arrival date. So far we have 10 riders who are planning to go. The Oklahoma Band of Brothers’ Members is the largest single group of riders so far who are planning to make the trip with us

August 23rd Pre-Tour de Sand Diego Get-Together, Leesburg, VA

September 2008 Tour de San Diego. Why not start planning now to meet us somewhere along the way? The plan is to leave o/a Sept. 10th taking I-70 out to Denver and Colorado Springs and up into Montana and over to Washington State, then down to San Diego. We will return via the Southern Route I-10 stopping in El Paso, San Antonio, and New Orleans.

People probably think we are nuts when they see an S/H fee for Registration. We’re not, that is intentional, because with our PayPal plan, if one item has an S/H all items need to have the same thing. We reduced Registration fees by $3.00, so it works out the same.

The Band of Brothers, SDPAO, SD Harley Davidson Dealer and others help make a difference for the Children in San Diego by raising money for this annual event in support of the SD Children’s Hospital Cancer’s Ward. Won’t you help by riding with us and helping to raise money? No funds are used to support any rider. Every penny raised is presented to the fund that supports this and other children’s activities in San Diego.

DUES – In June with the first year’s anniversary of our organization dues with become due on the month you joined. They are $25.00.

Looks like Oklahoma is in the lead with PA a close second. Membership and sales are the only two ways we have of building our operating funds, since all money raised during a particular ride goes to the charity we are riding to support. None of that money goes to riders or organizational expenses.
