The Arizona National Guard has lost a Patriot Guard Rider in a traffic accident.

A press release from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs identifies the victim as 50-year-old Craig Creed of Mesa.

Creed belonged to the military support group Patriot Guard Riders.  Their main mission is to attend the funerals of fallen American heroes.

According to the release, the accident happened Thursday after Creed attended the funeral of a soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Creed's motorcycle crashed on the Loop 101 in Scottsdale.   The cause of the accident is under investigation.

"Arizona cries tonight, our hearts are broken," said Louann Thomas, National Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders.

Craig Creed is survived by Cindy, his wife of 23 years, along with his daughter Stephanie, son Justin and daughter-in-law Jessica.

Funeral arrangements are pending.  The family has requested that in lieu of sending flowers, please donate to the Patriot Guard Riders or Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley.

Checks may be made payable to "Patriot Guard Riders, Inc." and mailed to:
