Chris went down Tuesday night.  Before i go farther let me just tell you that 32 years of riding experience sure comes in handy when you suddenly find a mattress in the middle of the freeway!!  Apparently he was merging from the 15S to the 163 around 6:45pm and as he came around the curve there were two people waving their hands around, he glanced at them then back at the road and BAM! there was a mattress two feet away.  I feel blessed to report that he only suffered bruises, and a significant amount of road rash.   We spent a few hours in ER while the doctors picked over his injuries but they released us and he was home that night.  Turns out the people on the side had dropped the mattress and were trying to get it out of the road but he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Looks like their insurance is going to take care of the bike and any medical expenses but I just wanted to share.  Goes to show you can never tell whats gonna happen on the road!

Jet, I'm glad he wasn't more seriously hurt.  Road rash is not fun, especially when they have to scrape asphalt out of your skin with a scouring brush.  It can be more painful than going down, cuz it's so much slower and you're acutely aware.  Was he on the Fatboy?

Anyway, please let him know we're wishing him a quick recovery.  Thanks for letting us know.

Unfortunately he was on the Panhead... the good thing: max speed 65 and the mattress owner has insurance.  The bad thing he just finished all that work restoring it...  but really material possessions can be replaced; people can't.

Man, that Road Rash can drive you Crazy
when it starts healing, itches like Hell..
When I started riding in the street about 5 years ago on a Honda Shadow, I went down on a turn, Sand on the Black-Top at a slow speed, grabbed to much front Break.. Thinking I was on a MX bike in my mind… First lesion to be learned, lots of Road rash and 6 stitches in my elbow.. Went to Bike School after that and learnt the rules of the road.. Riding the street is a whole nother world then Dirt racing.. I was a Pro MX rider for US Suzuki for 4 years. Well, bought my Harley a year later and haven’t been down sense.. (KNOX ON WOOD)…
Hope everything turns out OK for him.. T-Bone
