3rd Party Applications on Bikers Funhouse: Should I be concerned?

Hi All,

Tony (Administrator)'s reply to my question on another Forum topic gave me cause to consider another question.  That is ...  Should I be concerned about 3rd Party Applications on this site?  I expect Tony knows the answer to this question better than anyone here, but I'd like to reach out to members for their input, or their takes on this topic.  Might there be cause for concern?  I had never given a thought to 3rd Party Apps here, until Tony posted this reply on another Forum topic I posted:

"The gift catalogue is a 3rd party add-on, so that's probably why gifts remain after a member leaves."  (Underscoring added by me.)

While many of you here may remember word-for-word the the agreement you had to accept to register on this site, I really don't ... and it's not unusual for me to just click the "I agree" button and complete registrations.  Some of the wording in registration "agreements" is written in legalese, and I can barely speak English, so I avoid the confusion and simply think, "Yeah, okay!".  So, I quite likely overlooked possible mentions of 3rd Party Applications, and/or their meanings.

I have questions, though, and I wouldn't be able to ask them here .... if I were NOT here.  So, if I may, I'll use that for my rationale for simply clicking the "I agree" button.  That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

We live in an age when information can be very easily disseminated.  If there are, in fact, 3rd Party Applications used on this site, then I have the following questions/concerns:

Do we (BFH members) need to consider that what we put in our personal/registration information on BFH may not necessarily be private or or remain private?

What is the purpose of the third party applications?

What data, if any, is being collected about BFH members by the applications?  Where this data is being held, and for how long?  What is it being used for?  Who else (besides BFH) has access to the data, who can view the information?  Is BFH sharing info about us?

Where are the safeguards against the misues of private information by third-party applications?

While many BFH users may not care about the issue, it is likely that some do. Privacy and data protection are serious issues these days.  While this site's approach to managing and sharing information within its platform may be one of genuine concern for the privacy of its members, it is appropriate that both developers and users remain aware of the whats, hows, whens and wheres of private information.

I just now looked at "Terms and Condions" for this site, and the 9th term reads:

9. Privacy.

Use of the Website and/or the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Use of the Website and/or the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

Yes, it says that twice (?).

But, I have not found the link (which is often assigned to the bottom of many web pages) that says "PRIVACY".  My eyesight ain't great, so I may just not be seeing it.

If you know anything about 3rd Party Applications, or if you have ideas or concerns relating to the security or protection of private info that you wouldn't mind sharing, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

John

John, I don't know what's up with you, man.  Is this like Mission Impossible to you?  Are you on a mole hunt? LOL!  Trust me, I just got off a hell of a ride with the Road Snot Gang, and I'm still grinning ear to ear, so with all due respect, I mean this post as light hearted and playful.

A 3rd party mod or add-on is simply a feature that doesn't come with the standard website.  Developers make add-ons or modifications that can be added to this (social networking) website so you can enjoy more features.  Nobody is collecting data about you.  Nobody is selling your information.  What you see here is what you get.  I am a regular dude that put up this website to attract other riders, bikers, motorcycle enthusiasts and gorgeous women to enjoy, have fun, meet online, meet face-to-face, get together and ride!  ...and yes, beautful, gorgeous, floppy, bouncy, playful bare titties are acceptable!  As soon as I figure out how, we're having a damn titty contest.  I have never worked so hard in my life for something that should be so simple.  The site is for enjoyment and fun, that's it.  It's not a political grandstand, it's not anybody's soapbox, it's not here so people can dump their shit on other people just because it's easy behind a screen.  For those who come to this site simply to enjoy themselves and have fun, thank you.  I solute you.  For those who come to make friends, brighten other peoples' day (BILL!), or share your passion for riding and the road, I solute you too.  You're dialed in to the whole reason this website was developed.  For the members who came here for about a minute, caused drama and shit in the forums and in their blogs and had nothing positive to contribute, I'm glad they found their way out the damn door.  I just got off a phenomenal ride today.  I logged into this website with the hope that others might have posted comments, photos, videos, or whatever else about THEIR rides today.  I came here to relax and enjoy a membership of bikers and riders and beautiful babes that come together to share their lives and experiences like the greatest rally.  For chrissakes, are we getting it about the site yet?  I'm not selling information about you, I'm not sharing information about you, I'm not collecting information about you.  My supreme hope is that I might see you on the road one day, maybe have a drink and a laugh, shake hands and then get on down the road for the next adventure.  My life is not about any deception or bullshit.  I'm not a techy, I don't know a damn thing about HTML language, programming, website development, none of it.  I've scratched and clawed and crawled my way through this thing one day to the next.  I've dealt with people that think their shit don't stink and think they should be able to say and do whatever they damn well want to, and then they take their self righteous asses right off the site.  It's unbelievable.  The site earns about 2-3 dollars a day by those little Google ads floating around (don't worry, they're not taking your picture), which covers the cost of the server and maybe some of those "3rd party add-ons" you're enjoying.  If it helps, I can tell you what I paid for and added to the site for your enjoyment.  Think of the add-ons as "after market" parts for your motorcycle.  They're offered as an enhancement, and nothing more.  3rd party add-ons include the gifts, the forum, the video section, the stats page, the news section, the donation link and hall of fame page, the mass emailer, and the flashchat chatrooms.  Those "modifications" were paid for and implemented to boost your fun and enjoyment and to provide better features and functionality on the site.

So much for light hearted and playful.  Guys, no one on this side of your screen wants anything more than to have fun and enjoy other members who like to get out and ride and come together to share the experience in an online community.  Enjoy the place.  Put up pics of your ride in the FUNHOUSE GARAGE forum, share your stories of being on the road, share your favorite roads, enjoy the video section, meet new people, flash your titties, pinch your nipples, hell I don't care.  It's all here for you to enjoy.

Tony ~

Hey Tony,  No this is not like Mission Impossible to me.  What's up with me?  Well, curiosity, a little concern, an interest in knowing how things work, or why things don't work.  No, I'm not on a mole hunt.  I'm actually very used to folks thinking I come off way more serious than I really am.

My question arose as a (totally inappropriate, it seems) reaction to reading the words "3rd party".  What came to mind immediately was the big brouhaha that developed (not long ago) over Facebook's use of 3rd Party Applications.  I had never seen that term used in relation to anything here, so I thought if I asked legitimate questions, that would be okay.  If I was probing beyond "legitimate", or if I was "mole hunting", then please understand that I didn't do it to question your intentions, your generousity, or (especially) your integrity.  I have given you genuine, sincere compliments and words of appreciation about the work you've done here and most certainly have mentioned your qualities (described above) in those compliments.

I can't help but think that your "political grandstand" and "soapbox" comments are aimed specifically at me ... duh, why wouldn't I think that.  I'm one of just a few (it seems) people who think that sort of "shit" is important enough to post on your site.  I ride and have riding since my first Whizzer motorbike, over 50 years ago.  Riding is one of my passions, and it's been a nearly life-long passion (would you believe I have some well-established references?).  But I have other passions, and my life or the life of my daughter and her future family is not dependent upon my riding.  Nor is anyone elses future dependent upon my riding.  I don't have the need to convince anyone that my political leanings are as important to me as my interest in motorcycles.  In fact, there's been so much conversation about Harleys, riding and rides in my life that I often prefer to talk about other things.  Does that mean that I should not be here, or that what I choose to blog about doesn't make any "positive" contribution here?  You can note that even the few news articles about motorcycles, bikers and such that I've posted have a political bent, or at least a bent towards worldly or humanitarian info/issues ... or maybe safety.  If you were directing those comments at me .... well, geez ... you might give me a complex about not being biker-enough.  I'd give that some deep thought, if I weren't grinning ear-to-ear, myself.

I would never object to pics of womens' bare breasts, but personally ... I think I've matured (maybe in a fucked up way, in your opinion) to a point where my feelings about women do not have me thinking that other things aren't important, too.  I think I posted (or tried to post) a pic some gal on the back of some guys sled with bare tits on your page the other day.  That would have been my very first bare woman's breast pic, and I'm sure my posting was motivated by great feelings of inadequacies from the realization that I've not been behaving in a manner that would be expected of a "biker".  Can I find those titty pics en masse???  Hell, yes ... all over the place.  Could I get really creative with them?  Sure, of course I could.  Do I think the political stuff I post is more important ? .... Just my opinion, but yes, just a little more important.  I've not felt I'm "dumping" on anyone here, but perception is everything ... and maybe you think I am.   Do I think the women here wanna see bare titties?  Perhaps a good number would, and that question would make an excellent Forum topic ... not that you'd be interested in testing any waters before you got your titty contest together.  You know the men ain't gonna object.

I'm glad you had a great ride today, and thanks for answering my questions about sharing private info.

Because you've brought it up, and because I know you're honest, I'll tell you that I'll have no hard feelings whatsoever if you think my postings aren't helpful or contributing, and that I should take my righteous ass off your site.  I always thought that sharing truth really should "brighten other peoples' day".  It brightens mine.  I don't know what your reference to "(BILL!)" meant. (?)
