Just another awesome 300 mile ride. The first 15 minutes riding 'long side Duke put a smile of addrenalin and excitement on my face wider than the last 4 group rides I've ridden. We just fuckin' hammered it. Rode up through Sandia Creek, over Ortega Hwy, crossed right through the parking lot at Cook's Corner and kept on goin'. We made Laidlaws for a shirt, had some eats, and then hammered it for home. If there was a chopper overhead, it would have looked like a chase scene outta Cops. We hit it through the cars like they weren't even there...until dusk. That's when Duke informed me my light was out. The damn thing never did have a low beam. Now the highbeam was out, and I'm about 70 miles from home and it's gettin' dark fast. I'm using Duke as a guide through traffic, cars honkin' and flashin' their hazzards like they thought I didn't know the fuckin' thing was out . Now I got no headlight, one rear turn signal, and no fronts cuz those came off about 3 years ago. Duke pulls off at his exit. I've still got another 30 miles of highway, and now it's DARK. I cut off the highway onto a side road and figured I could avoid cops until I could reach another part of the highway. The road was pitch black. There could have been a cow laying across the road and I wouldn't have seen it. I pull over to wait for a car so I can follow in his lights. A car passes and I hammer on the throttle and the cable snaps. NIIIIIIICE! I pull the plastic up and see about riding home with the throttle cable in my right hand and try to shift with my left with ape hangers in the pitch black without any light! Forget it. I'm phuckt. Probably a blessing in disguise. Call for the tow. But ya know - it was just another awesome day when the rubber meets the road.
