My great uncle was one of the soldiers who freed who was left at one of the Nazi death camps. Uncle Ewan, want to hear some more of your stories.

Another brother with the army was stationed at Long Bien. Love you Rodger.

Another brother was a marine, but stayed states side. Love you, Richard.

Ex-brother-in-law was an aircraft machanic in Thailand. Ron, hope you've had a good life.

Current

My "foster" daughter just got back from Afghanistan and is a truck "mechanic" in the army. Her husband is special ops. Love you, Angela and Larry

Paul's cousin's son-in-law is in Afghanistan. He's an air traffic controller in the marines. Love you, Cory. Be safe.

Another one something similar to your dad snake.

My great uncle (Papa's youngest brother) was also in the Navy in WWII. Something happened to him over there as well. From the time he got back until now, he has kept a bucket of soapy water in his car, office, and at home. Constantly washing his hands,.
If you touch anything around him, doorknob, desk, or shake his hands, he will wash it as soon as you leave. He will wash the inside of his pockets with his pants on.
My Papa and I had a long talk about it one time. He said no one ever asked him what happened, they just knew it changed him, and whatever he saw or went thru was his alone, he never shared it with anyone.
My great uncle worked for Vetrans Affairs in Nashville until he retired.

My dad served in Europe in WWII.  Came home a changed man.  Drank a lot, divorced, remarried, divorced again, remarried.  What he lost is incalculable.  But he did what he had to do at a time that's what people did.

I'm OK with that.  We made peace the day they lowered him into the ground.

Sadly, nothing in this comment is wrong.

My Papa was a tried and true, Archie Bunker type, WWII vet who served on the USS Alabama. I have his bootcamp graduation pic from 1942.
He was always very active in the VFW, as was my Nanny. I spent a lot of my childhood there. A very fond memory of him dragging me on the dance floor (for the very first time) at 12. I kept a lot of their VFW certificates and pins.

He fittingly passed away 13 years ago on July 4th
