STURGIS OR BUST------CALIFORNIA TO STURGIS 2008***
Somewhere around 3500 MILES TOTAL
Let me tell you about my first ever more than 300 miles. &nb sp;
MY EXCELLENT AWESOME SUMMER VACATION...
&nb sp; 1st you should know that this was my 1st time going to STURGIS BIKE WEEK "WOOHOO" and I did it BITCH on a Heritage Softtail Classic...... So,not my Bike..!!!
(PS Lady's I learn a good rule before I left)
Just be quiet and let your man or driver get you there so thats what I did
We started in Riverside, CA---45 miles into the trip we got a flat tire THATS ALSO WHEN THE DRIVER REMEMBER HE FORGOT TO GET TOW INSRANCE, so getting it fixed towed and on the rode again took 3 hours and $100.00........
Because of the late start we hit the Arizona DESERT around 1pm::: 113 degrees in the desert felt like I was following a blow torch the whole way and I honestly thought I was gonna die......I didnt
In the small state of Utah we hit Rain, Lighting, Hail, Wind Storms, Dust Storms, Heat and could see snow, and you guessed it we had no rain gear.... (I think God is angry that the Mormans have so many wifes and he didnt) just kidding
In Yellowstone, I wanted to get closer to a beautiful waterfall so I tripped, fell, and stumbled my way down bruising my legs and cutting my feet on what felt like every freaking rock, twig piece of shit I swear the entire Yellowstone had :)....Yes, I went down barefoot of course because I choose not to wear my boots that day
(Can we say thats a blonde for you)
Only to realize when I got to the bottom...THAT HEY this looks like a cozy spot for a FREAKIN BEAR
to be chillin in......That's when the light blub went off and I realized that my fat ass couldnt get back up quick enough if a BEAR in fact was down there......So as you can picture this sight and the terror in my eyes!!! I damn near gave myself a heart attack trying to get my fat ass back up the hill as fast as I freakin could....
As we were leaving Yellowstone 2 fires broke out one somewhere north of us in Red something another bike rally sight and one in front of us in Cody so we did our best to out run the smoke and fires as fast as the bike would take us...But as the smoke intensified we were forced to stop and buy face masks just so that we could breath....But we bravely chugged on......
And as luck would continue to follow us, I must have ate something bad at a pitt stop because while traveling thru Montana I spent an hour or more ralphing in a cup,, But we rode on.......
We made it to STURGIS and we were suppose to stay at the Broken Spoke campground but upon arrival in about 97 degree heat we saw that there was no shade for camping whatsoever and decided we better find something a little more bearable.... So off we go in the Clampet mobile bike to find another site....We found Days End campground right on the edge of the city walking distance to downtown so that was all good.....
Luck again on our side as we were out riding to the ever beautiful Mt Rushmore in our summer clothing and ever so proudly not wearing helmets (cause we could) is when low and behold the biggest rain/hail storm of the week hit StURGIS and yes we were at the least an hour from camp so I am sure you get that visual as well :) .......
We got back to camp and then spent 1/2 hour holding up the tent trying to keep it together from the high winds , hail and rain, all this in the dark because STURGIS dosent allow campfires and we only had a small lamp Fun Fun Fun... New picture:) See Dick and Jane soaking wet, starving and tired.... But hey I am in STURGIS at BIKE WEEK......;)
We missed the BON meet and Greet at One Eyed JAcks beacuse the time was changed and I didnt know it..And when we went to the Rapid City BON meet and greet it was a no show except us of course....So sadly I didnt get to meet the many great people from BON that I so wanted to meet............
I did get to see the rest of the sights all beautiful, my driver being ever so gas thrifty-- drove kinda slow I realized just how slow when a bicycle passed us up in Custer he he he.... I really did almost die from laughing there :)
WE finally left the great STURGIS bike rally on Saturday and as we passed thru the rest of Wymoning we were treated to some of the hardest shelled bugs I know a BIG swarm of the wonderful June Bug (that hurt in several places lol.....)
To my utter amazement, some great biker people were waiting for bikers at the rest stop near the last town in Wy (Lusk) giving out free ice cold water (THANK YOU THANK you)hats off to those wonderful biker people.....
While cooling off and mending my June Bug boo boo's I met a couple there that were towing with their bike !!! a full bar on a trailer.... he had welded the bar and bar stools on the trailer and he told us that while in Glen Coe he put up a pole and had a blast as people stopped by did pole dances on the pole and body shots on the bar what a concept..... ever see them tell them Hi for me :)
We ran but didnt make it from rain in Colorado so we had to get a room for our soaking wet butts for the night
Then in Grants, New MEXICO--- what we thought would be our last night in a hotel, we woke up to find the bike had been stolen ****** Couldnt get a one way rental car from anywhere even a u-haul.......
Thankfully a good friend of they guy I went with was available and nice enough to come and get us... he drove from CA to NM Thank you Bill.......finally got back to Hemet Thursday just in time for court on Friday
But hey, I can say---- "Been there done that"
I had a great adventure, saw some awesome country
You may think I had a bad time,
but I say: HELL NO "I HAD A GREAT ADVENTURE"
SO, Tell me --- HOW WAS YOUR SUMMER VACATION
hugs
Karyn
PS: Any volunteers for next year?? I still am always will be only a passenger.......sitting behind the great bikers of the world..............
